A promise is a promise. Following this little introduction I transcripted my notes during a Lecture that was held in FCA, with the Caniche Club Argentino organisation, lecturer was Miss Francis Smith. Those rules where recomendated during the last annual seminar of REC (Association of Poodles Clubs in Europe). Rules will be on in 2011. It´s aplicable for all sizas, toy, dwarf, medium and standard. As an illustrative point I posted some photos, those dogs are not of my property, except the apricot and red ones.

Arlequin
Solid Colors: Harlequines or any type of dots are not accepted under any circumstances, neither tiny spots of white in chest or paws. The color always must be uniform. Although in the past spotted Poodles existed, is know now that this gen came along with deseases such as blindness and deaf, the same happens in other breeds, being health one of the pillars of the breed, this decision is irrevocable. This gen acts like the harlequin Great Dane or the merle pattern in Collies. When two genes like that get together the defect appears. Even was banished for future because this attempts to the litters health.

Colores Básicos: Son considerados básicos el color negro, el marrón y el blanco.
Basic Colors: Are black, brown and white.

Diluted Colors: Diluted are apricot, red and gray. Never mate a diluted with a basic.

DNA: It´s going to be approved in USA and Europe a DNA color exam, in short future.

Pigments: Check nose, lids and lips. Is important to say that a nose without good pigment will be less colored in the middle, thats a major fault. But a winter nose, wher pigment lacks in the middle of nose dew to few sun hours is perfectly accepted

Eyes: The more darken the better, dark brown almost black in all colors, maybe brown will habe a lighter brown eye.

Skin: In black, grey and white, the skin will be dark or black. In brown will be deep brown and in apricots and reds you should found even black or brown skin.

HAIR: The curled hair is distinctive for the breed. Texture mus be soft ans have a resistance wen you press lightly with the hand, coming back to the original possition. The Poodle hasnt under hair, so doesn´t shedd. It hs a cordonated version, hard to see and hard to keep.

Negro
BLACK: The color is deeply intense, with a blue spark, without white hairs any place. If the dog has some white hair, when he reaches three years old will look a mousy black. Ideal mating is with another black. It is used in white and brown lines for maitening the dark pigment.

BROWN: Mating with another brown looking for the darkest brown allwas. This kind of color doesn´t have always a good texture, so now and then a black would do the trick.

Blanco
WHITE: Eyes should be very dark, even more than in blacks. We found two kinds of tones, the ice white and the cotton white, those colors have different skin. THe first one will have a bluish grey skin and the second one a pinky skin whith some black spots (only in skin, not in hair) THe cotton white generally has more hair but less texture. In both the nose, lips and lids should be black. We also found a cream color with brown pigment in skin more like pink flesh, is loosing incidence. White always go with white, looking for good pigment Now and then mateing with black is aprpiate for maintening the pigment in skin. Avoid mating with brown because lighter skin and eyes will apppear. The poodle is white because off absence of color, is not a color per se.

Gris
GRAY: Is a diluted color. Born black and between paw pads you can find lighter haird, then on the gray hair will appear. You should notice the difference from blue, that´s not an aproved color, and this can be cheked because nose, lids and lips have a bluish grey tone instead of jet black. Gray with gray is rule, but you can use black now and then for stronger pigments. Don´t mate with white, less with apricot or red and lesser with brown. Keeping a right pigment is the goal, if we mate with white (remember absence of color) the diluted color will appear with marks and spots having produced harlequins.

TAWNY: Red and apricot are here together because have same genetic base. Tawny shouldn´t be so light as cream or so dark as mahogany. Both tawny will have either black or brown pigment. For not loosing pigment you should choose to mate those with the darker pigment. The most intense red or orange. If we use black here on that porpouse we will obtain not so dark black puppies

Apricot
Apricot: Orange, with uniformity, although is very common to have some degree of tone in body. THey could be born black, with a sable DNA, so they will grow orange hair on the base and the black tip will dissapear. Tabby marks are not accepted, lighter tones like cream or champagne are not allowed. Never mate with gray, alwas look for the darker orange or red.

Rojo

Red: Will be deep, intense and fire dark, without degradee. The stronger coor possibly. Ideal for keeping red is always use intense reds. Could be mate with apricot.
