Sometimes people thinks that pedigree is the health book, or a pretext for a expensive dog. Pedigree in the hands of a reputable breeder is the key of a serious breeding program. The pedigree is where you can find the names of the family tree of that dog, with their championship titles if they had them. It´s a symbol of the pure breed dog.
Anyway I have to reckon that isn´t a guarantee of a future champion in structure shows, field, work, agility, etc. Only time can tell that. Majority of puppies are going to be splendid pets if they grow up with love and ethics, that pedigree will be then very valuable because we have in our hands not only a pure breed dog, also a healthy one in body and mind.
Between breeders you can find reputable ones and bad people. You need to be alert and to tell them apart. It´s not the same a puppy mill than a Kennel. Sadly enough that puppy mill can be registrated at FCA or AKC, because is near impossible to inspect every kennel and every litter.
Breeders have a goal in mind. To produce the mmost perfect dog of that breed ever, always keeping in mind health and temperament. When I bought Braaf I really want a show dog, he had his pedigree, the key for going, but it wasn´t a quality show dog. It was sad for me, I really want to exhibit my dog in shows.
Doesn´t matter if you want just a pet, or if you are going to exhibit, breed or both, ALWAYS find a good breeder, learn about it, go to many kennels, make questions, and don´t get lost with fancy adds, can be real or not, check and double check! Don´t buy at pet shops, because probably those puppies came from a puppy mill. Always make a personal contact with the breeder.
