Agatha, la parienta loca que todos tenemos
Probably I´m a walking magnet for stray cats, they all found me! This time I was walking with a friend when we heard a sad meaow, and when I said sad, it was REALLY sad. Both animal lovers we tried to found the source, calling it, we can heard the poor thing but couldn´t see where it was. We knew it was betweent thick branches of bush, probably a small kitten. We went for some food and water and returned. We had to leave things there because it was already dark.
Next day came back, looking but without luck. We still heard the meows but little kitten wasn´t seen anywhere. So leaved food and water again and decided to return next day. Third day, a little more confident, the kitten appeared, blue and cream, huge ears, soft hair, maybe some siamese cat dad, I thought that with love because beauty is not her issue.
At least she had nice eyes said my daughter ¡Did you ever see a cat whithout nice eyes? The kitten appeared but didn´t let us cath her, she just run back to the bushes. We need extra help, a friend, a neighbor, a gardener who was passing nearby and two curious kids riding bikes. Whith all that SWAT team we managed to catch her. I put her inside a box and she miowed all the way back home like a crazy opera singer. I don´t know how were her first days of life, or what affected her so much, but she was scared and traumatizied for ever.
Little crazy kitten had a long quarantine in the garage, now a "Maniac Cat Hospital". Her shyness and fear didn´t help. SHe lived hidden and get out only for eating. A friend of mine said that she was a wild cat really pissed off. Ten days later she couldn´t recognize the change. SHe had to admit that I run a perfect "Mental Home" for cats, sure enough she didn´t have a long look, cat sill had some "issues"...
One of them was mosquito netting. After we spayed her, she started to go outside our garden, if we left an open window she just started climbing it like Tarzan. Another really annoying problem appeared later, we didn´t know why. She get out the garden, jumped the fence, from there to a small roof pointing out of my house and from there to the bathroom window on first floor! The incredible thing it was that she had to made some strange turn in air for getting up that place, otherwise is impossible reach. It was a mistery! Most annoying was the miowing with her characteristic soprano voice. We had to get out and spent a long time calling her so she came down. Crazy Cat!!
Salem hated her from day one, suppose was just jealousy. One of the things that I had to do with her when she left the garage zone, was being a cangaroo mother. There was no way of shuttin her up If I didn´t carry her in my arms, So one day I just think that maybe carrying her in a backpack in front of me was a wise solutione, she could fell comfortable and I can do all my house cleaning without much fuzzing, ha! It worked pretty well, too much Animal Planet! Luckily enough, Jupiter, our mafia cat protected her,he became her daddy. Till present htey have a wonderful relationship. She is almost three now, bit crazy. Doesn´t trust too much in anyone. She likes to sleep hidden in the twins room or in the laundry basket. Like a crazy auntie, what else can I do?!

(O Cuestión de Peso) - To run or not to run
We were happily ever after in Ingall´s prairie, eating barbecue...Kieran the glutton noticed very fast that sunday barbecues were the best, and even better little kids attending with sausage sanwiches in their hands. Ideal height for him, he dicscovered a new habbility for tasting barbecue goodies.
Not happy enough with that he wanted what was on tables also. We called this trick "great Willy", coming from the film with the famous killing whale. His jump is very similar to the ones killing whales employed for hunting their preys. They land over the seashore and make a quick turn to one side for giving space to the bite. And yes, he reaches the table and "hunt" whatever you place over.
Mr. Dog obviously gained weight. My husband also. So he decided to start jogging for losing those extra kilos. Starting Monday, 8.00 AM, exercide and diet both.
Tercer día, Miércoles, 8.00 AM, "KIEEEEERAAAAN, KIEEEERAN, DAALEEEE; VAMOOOOOS A PASEAAAR; VENIIIII!!!!!"
Third day, 8.00 AM, "KIEEERAAAN; KIEEEERANNN; COME ON; LETS GO FOR A WALK!!! No signals of the dog, strange, he´s a sheepdog, you call him and he answers at the first KI, tops if is something he really enjoys like going out....My husband was getting lates, so he went without him.
I was having breakfast, thinking in the weird episode, try to call him myself "KIEEEERANNN", nothing at all. In the precise moment that the door banged with my husband exit, I heard a long sigh of relief, that was strange...another sight and hocus pocus, Kieran get out from under the table waving his tail!!!! He looked at me with those wise eyes that talked by themselves "What do you expect? Me running all round the neighbor this early? Nope, nope" Hahaha, he is so damn clever...

Very often my brain lands in that dream land where imagination is the queen. What I would do with a little fortune? Obviously cancell any debts, help family and friends, charity donation. After that I had everything planned. First travel, second travel, third travel. Being able to take my kids around the world would be an endless pleasure.
As you need a home for coming back from time to time, I would love to buy a farm. No need to be very big, yes a nice and big house so could friends can visit, a pond with fishes, island, deck and boat. A place where our Obama could swim and be happy. A quarter horse, maybe an arabian, more cats, another Norway Forest, a Birmane. A well design garden full of roses, a cypress laberynth and obviously a big kennel, make it huge, whit inside and outside playpens. A good place for grooming, another one for nursery.
¿Y ustedes? ¿Qué les gustaría tener? Total, soñar es gratis!
Some time ago well known breeder Kathleen Kanzler, from Inisfree Kennel, told me that her favourite spot was a romm she made conecting the kennel with the house. Just for playing with the pups, socialize them and enjoy them. That´s pleasure for me! And the million dollar question, how many dogs? I could afford all I want. Shetland Sheepdogs for sure, can´t imagine a live without them. Also Toy Poodles, love them. And breeds I never had but would like, in pairs like Noah´s Ark. Standard Poodle, Pomeranian, Australian Sheperd, Leonberger, probably Border Collies, liked Dobermanns, Rough Collies and Borzois too, maybe Samoyed. For sure I would´t have Terriers or brachycephalic. And you? What would you like to have? Dreaming is for free!

Definitivamente Salem sabe cazar...Salem knows how to hunt...
Something that was a virtue ends being a punishment. All her cat intincts appeared a summer afternoon when I was taking care of the pods in the terrace. Salem was at my side looking with curiosity, nothing more true than the old saying curiosity killed the cat. This time I almost killed her with my prune shears. ha!
Fate rules, a chicky fell down from the nest into my terrace, surely was learning to fly. Wings were fast enough, sadly the cat get there first, even before me and mother bird. In a flash was over it, with my shout Salem released the chick, but was too late...Even sadler was to hear the bird calling the little chick all the afternoon.
But this is the way cats are. Those who know, say that they are very similar to wild cats. We have to say that is not true they do it fur fun or malice. Cats are the perfect hunting machine. Thanks that they can survive in streets, hunting for food. But, why they do it whith a full belly? Instincts rule. Cats need to have their body in shape for an eventual lack of food. And when we think they play with the prey it´s just the way they use for stunning before killling, so the victim doesn´t put back resistance hurting them.
We all took note of this skill so we can prevent another dead chik. Bird feeder is in such position that they can see any cat coming. We put her a noisy bell in her collar, and we are specially alert during summer when chicks start to leave their nests.
A veces no alcanza, gana ella.
Sometimes that´s not enough. In her five years she killed 3 or 4 birds (may be more that we don´t know) we are sorry for the lost. Last one was a thrush that she haunted, don´t know how but poor bird end under our bed with Dakota the mini poodle!! Crime partner...Little bird was still alive, the kids took it outside and put it under a tree, but when they checked again poor birdie was dead.
Her most odd fight was with a tero (don´t know translation, local bird, big like a heron) and they are brave! In their wings is a hard sting they use for defense, it is dangerous, can do a nasty wound. That they I was watering the garden, so Salem was bathed with cold water from the hoose and the tero escape without consecuences, only a few less feathers...
Pasamos de Dupla a Terceto - From twice to thrice
Just moved in and we went to a friends barbecue, they lived at the same neighborhood. We didn´t know at all that we would came back with a souvenir.
We were enjoying aftermeal, kids were playing in the garden. Suddenly, from the group of kids between 8 and 10 years old we heard some joyce, fear, admiration, surprise and all in between shouts. Then silence. Parents knew that silence is a scary sign that something naughty is coming. And yes, they appeared with a plea in their eyes, plisiwantthelittlekitten. At the head of the group was Jaci with a little thing in her hands. When we heard the little miow we left the coffe spoon in shock.
Appartment friends had quickly reflexes "Don´t even think about it" Hostess was terrified "I had a cat phobia" So, who remained? Yes, me. My husband didn´t bother at all, he´s cat friendly, I had an easy "yes" with stray creatures and my kids. So when Jaci opened her hands I saw a tiny tiny kitten. Since kittens that little are always with their mother, and mother cat wasn´t seen around there despite our search, we supposed that an evil human throw it like trash. It was a grey tabby, white muzzle and fleas, fleas and more fleas. Full of fleas!!
Ok, primer paso, veterinaria, para conseguir algo para matar pulgas. Asi a casa no iba a entrar.
So, first step, vet, we need something for killing those fleas, couldn´t go home that way. With kitten on arms, still thinking the idea of going back home with her I met one of my new neighbors. "So good you found a cat, there are some mouse round here..." Oh my! Assumed she was going with us as soon as possible. Couldn´t even think that our siames was a mouse catcher, that was our new kitten job.
Obviously was a Saturday night, we went to an open vet clinic. It was so little that they put her a special powder for fleas. In minutes the bugs were jumping everywhere, yuk! They told us it was a girl, gave the shots and returned home.
One food bowl another one with water. For what? Was so little that she didn´t know how to lick or eat by herself, we had to botle fed him the first days till she learnes how to do it. She never missed the litter tray (don´t know why but they used for first time as pros) inthe garage. Stray kittens always go there, like a quarantine station, so if they are ill they don´t spread the disease tho the stable "staff" of the house.
As years went by our garage had turned into a kind of storing place, raquets, bicycles, balls, odd stuff, cat and dog food, the car stays there of course and last but not least, our place for Obama when is raining or it is very cold outside (and he´s a Newfounsland, ha!) But the maining "job" of our garage is to be a "Hotel and Clinic for strays". It´s kind of funny, becaus when we had an intruder inside the garage, our two poodles, the sheltie and the four cats stay facing the door that links the garage with our house. Kinda group of freaky fans waiting their idol leaving the hotel, haha!!
We were talking about Salem, quarantine time, learning to eat by herself without chocking, and finally we introduce her properly inside our house. First came Kieran introduction, that was smooth. He was happy, he loved any sheep, doesn´t matter this one was stripped...Jupiter was really pissed off, he snorted and left. End of story. Although Salem is really friendly Jupitercan´t stand her. He hates her and is always avoiding her. But she is so clever that she teased him and when he tries to gave her a punch, she dodges him, I think she even smiles...A courious thing about Salem is that although she is friendly, we can only pet her in the head otherwise she bites. Only Jaci can pick her and pet her body without problem. Think is a trust in her rescue hero.
